Mingyu pouts into the camera lens, which blinks stoically back at him. "I think I look good," he says - doesn't really say so much as whines, doesn't really whine so much as makes his voice so much smaller than it has any business being, coming from a body like that. A face like that.
Some of his viewers agree, and they say so freely. Chat is always in a mood but tonight especially. Because it's Friday, and Friday is Request Night. They tend to get riled up - rowdy, he calls it - on Request Night. (Not that they're not like this every other day of the week. Not that Mingyu has ever encouraged anything less.) Whenever he points this out someone inevitably asks him who was doing the riling in the first place; and then he has to duck his big strong head against his big strong chest, and rub the back of his big strong neck with similarly adjectived fingers: "Sorry," he has to say, so mournful, so penitent, but the grin at the corner of his mouth (never fully on! He's too well trained for that) tells them just how sorry he is. Just how much sorry he still has to give.
The ears kind of itch. It's just a cheap headband he found somewhere - he didn't actually find them, Jeonghan did, they were out shopping for his sister's birthday so they'd stopped at one of those vendors that sells sparkly stuff, pink stuff, girl stuff; the other headbands had sparkly stars and big pink pompoms which Mingyu was idly running his fingers through because he liked the texture, the softness.
He hadn't seen the dog ears, but Jeonghan had, because Jeonghan always sees that kind of stuff. When Mingyu felt the headband settle against his crown he hadn't noticed that it itched yet; he was looking up at Jeonghan's hands, reaching to pet his hair back into place, and then down at Jeonghan's mouth, already laughing at him, not with him.
"We found them," Jeonghan had said, in a tone too full of mocking to leave any room for fondness, no matter how much other, more romance-inclined individuals might strain to hear.
"Found what?" Mingyu had said - pouted - whined, ducking his shoulders to make himself smaller for Jeonghan, pinning his arms into his chest soldier-like so that Jeonghan could maneuver his body however he liked, do with Mingyu anything he liked. Jeonghan lets him do this without stopping him, even when it makes Mingyu's back and knees and pride ache. Especially when.
"Your real ears," Jeonghan had said, patting the back of Mingyu's head - not even the fake pleather ears, but right above the nape of the neck, the place which would make a real dog shiver and shake. Mingyu didn't shiver and he didn't shake, but he had to bite his tongue, a bloody bite, and Jeonghan let him sit with that whine trapped between his teeth until he was satisfied Mingyu had agonied enough. The next time Mingyu speaks the inside of his mouth is a different shade of red, and it glints in Jeonghan's eyes.
Mingyu adjusts them now. He doesn't take them off, even as they itch, and even when one of his top donors pays for a super message to flash across the screen: take the costume off ,, no furry shit tonight, nobodys pay ing for that
Mingyu just tilts his head. "What costume?" he asks, and grins, big and wide and showing all his teeth. Full muzzle on display.
His phone, off to the side and out of the camera's unblinking gaze, lights up. Jeonghan never watches but he saw the ears laying around innocently before he left this afternoon; smirked mean when he saw Mingyu's neck flush red.
Mingyu doesn't need to check what the text says in order to sit up a little straighter, puff out his chest a little, lift his chin so they can see him. Jeonghan is always so good at reminding him about all the important details the camera wants to see. His neck. His mouth. His face. His ears. Everything they're paying for. What a good boy he can be.
