About
The world is full of beautiful words. The tongue has no bones but is strong enough to break a heart. Words start wars and end them, create love and choke it, bring us to laughter and joy and tears. There is no falsehood in words, only in things.
Calling all readers, lovers of poetry and music, screen and stage. If you have a google spreadsheet of Metric/Marina/Mitski/Macklemore lyrics, now's your time to shine. What does Nobel Laureate Louise Glück have in common with the Future of Kpop Lee Chan? I don't know, but we can find out.
Examples
Junhui + The Archer
"Easy they come, easy they go
I jump from the train, I ride off alone
I never grew up, it's getting so old
Help me hold onto you"
Taylor Swift - The Archer
Verhao; "I loved him from the moment he walked in"
Just thinking about all the verhao soft feelings from the last week of November, especially the killer tweet from @literarykpop with the quote:
"I laughed and said, ‘Life is easy.’ What I meant was, ‘Life is easy with you here, and when you leave, it will be hard again." - Miranda July
95 line - R18
"Houston, we have a problem."

“Uri...” Seungcheol starts, sways to the sad ballad as multicolor orbs of light from the disco ball above him colors the walls.
“Haji moshan maldeul majeo yaegihaeyo,” he closes his eyes, removes from view the blurry mess of his officemates around him. Salary men barely scraping by, but out on a Thursday to celebrate one of them finally getting out of this corporate hell hole. Buckets of lukewarm beer on the tables. Cheap and poor quality meat cold around its own lard.
“Sawori jinamyeon geuttaen uri amu ildo eopsdeusi,” he belts, moving the mic closer to his mouth instead of away as his voice soars, ignoring the loud feedback of the speakers behind him.
Someone yells at him to Please! Hyung, enough! Must be Chan, Seungcheol guesses and sings even more dramatically. Ignores the cackling and snickering. The music swells and Seungcheol loses himself in the song, pours his heart out anyway.
“Saranghaesseossgi ttaemune...”
And in the brief moment before the song ends, Seungcheol opens his eyes finally and looks. He smiles at Chan, who is leaning into Mingyu, who raises a bottle at him.
They eye each other from across the room and Seungcheol lets his memory mouth the words to the song, forgetting everything else, as he walks towards their table, pulled by Mingyu’s gravity. Watches Mingyu mirror the fondness that he knows is plastered on his face.
Then the song quiets, ends, and the alarming sound of the noraebang counting his score disrupts the vacuum of the moment and makes them all turn to look.
“You are a fantastic singer!” The machine quips and they all laugh, proud and joyous with the heady feeling that comes with near-drunkenness.
“Okay, my turn!” Chan announces and then drags to wakefulness the bleary-eyed Seungkwan who has been nursing his own bottle of water the whole time.
As the two of them pick a new song, Mingyu whispers, “Hyung, do you want to see Kwannie’s going away gift for me?”
At the end of the hallway of this floor of the noraebang is a small pocket of a fire escape where Mingyu shows Seungcheol a black device, fits his palm, round around the edges.
“Is it a radio?”
“No, hyung,” he almost whines, giggling quietly. “It’s a recording device.”
Seungcheol regards Mingyu as he moves closer, the side of his body flush against his, and already - already feels the hole his warm presence will leave in its wake. No more of Mingyu’s always, without fail, eager voice answering the phone from across him. No more of Mingyu always coming back from the tiny pantry with two cups of the bad tasting instant coffee, one for Mingyu, one for Seungcheol. No more of his bright paper clips keeping Seungcheol’s files together. No more of Mingyu’s proud grin at every compliment from their team leader. No more of his encouraging, fierce nod at Seungcheol every time he has to lead a huddle. No more of Mingyu’s head on his shoulder as they take the bus home at seven. No more of Mingyu saying-
“Say something,” Mingyu says, handing him the device.
Seungcheol looks at the voice recorder.
“I don’t know what to say.”
“Anything from the heart,” says Mingyu. Seungcheol takes it.
Mingyu is smiling at him expectantly but no words come. He just lets himself look at Mingyu, all yellow and breathtaking under this ugly light by the fire escape, a ballad he knows old people like to sing faintly playing from the nearby room. Lets himself feel proud and happy and then very lonely at the sight of Mingyu this close, this present. Just for a time. Just a little lonely.
“Mangu-yah!” Seungkwan yells, his head peeking from a few doors down the hallway. “It’s your song next!”
Then Mingyu is saying be right back and then he is skipping towards their room.
Seungcheol looks back at the recording device, sees the tiny red light that signals its life. He had never been good with words, so he gives his all watching over his loved ones instead, looking after them, moving things away so they don’t bump into anything that would hurt. He doesn’t really know what to say to Mingyu - and it’s not like they won’t see each other again! So he just hugs the recorder close to his chest, hoping Mingyu knows. Hoping Mingyu hears anyway.
*
Later, when Mingyu is back in his own room, all showered and tucked to bed, he remembers the voice recorder and hurries out from under the duvet. He plays back the messages from his friends, laughs here and there.
Chan’s recording is the funniest, because Mingyu can hear Seungcheol singing Beautiful Goodbye in the background. Giving commentary to his singing, saying things like Why does he sound like he had been divorced twice. He sounds so hopeless! Enough!
Mingyu laughs, feels his eyes water.
And then when he comes to Seungcheol’s part in the recording, hears himself ask him to say something. Anything from the heart. And then Mingyu is being called by Seungkwan. And then Mingyu waits. Mingyu waits and waits, but no words come. Hears nothing but Seungcheol’s steady, gentle breathing. The quiet thump thump of his heart.
Re: [FILL] anything from the heart
He had never been good with words, so he gives his all watching over his loved ones instead, looking after them, moving things away so they don’t bump into anything that would hurt. This is such a perfect read on Cheol. Thank you for such a beautiful fill!
