About
The world is full of beautiful words. The tongue has no bones but is strong enough to break a heart. Words start wars and end them, create love and choke it, bring us to laughter and joy and tears. There is no falsehood in words, only in things.
Calling all readers, lovers of poetry and music, screen and stage. If you have a google spreadsheet of Metric/Marina/Mitski/Macklemore lyrics, now's your time to shine. What does Nobel Laureate Louise Glück have in common with the Future of Kpop Lee Chan? I don't know, but we can find out.
Examples
Junhui + The Archer
"Easy they come, easy they go
I jump from the train, I ride off alone
I never grew up, it's getting so old
Help me hold onto you"
Taylor Swift - The Archer
Verhao; "I loved him from the moment he walked in"
Just thinking about all the verhao soft feelings from the last week of November, especially the killer tweet from @literarykpop with the quote:
"I laughed and said, ‘Life is easy.’ What I meant was, ‘Life is easy with you here, and when you leave, it will be hard again." - Miranda July
95 line - R18
"Houston, we have a problem."

Joshua is the last to crash into his studio for the night. He brings two cans of Coke caught on a six-pack ring and a bag of veggie chips he'd bought at some organic produce supermarket they'd swung by in LA, back when they were still on tour. They were the last ones in the aisles and had to run to the check out line to ring up their purchases, and somewhere in between showing up at the register, Joshua had procured the veggie chips. Jihoon considers this as Joshua breaks open the bag, taking two before turning the opening towards him.
"I thought about you while reading this book the other day," says Joshua from where he's sprawled on the couch once the bag's half-empty.
Jihoon doesn't spare a glance up from his phone. "You, reading?" He scrolls through a roll of old pictures they'd taken in America. There's one with a smudge of a finger blurring the lens. "I'll believe it when I see it."
"It's about this group of kids, who're trying to save Earth from these parasite aliens," Joshua elaborates. He paws the table for the chip bag. "And a different kind of alien grants them powers so they can be heroes."
"Isn't that just Stranger Things?" Jihoon snorts, turning his phone facedown on his thigh.
Joshua shakes his head. "I just got to the part where the main character figures out his older brother is one of the bad guys." He sits up to take a sip of Coke.
"Aren't you not supposed to spoil the end for me?"
Joshua leans over the other end of the sofa to throw the plastic ring into the trash can. "I don't think you'll ever read it," he points out. "It's in English."
"Oh." Jihoon pulls at the height adjuster underneath his chair to keep his hands busy. Jihoon thinks it was in LA too when Joshua had pressed their palms tacky with sweat together, their arms raised above their heads and brought down as they bowed. Joshua had extricated himself a moment too late after the screens closed, and it’d given Jihoon less time to think back and forth about it.
Now, Joshua plunges his own hand toward him, back into the chip bag. “Then what happens next?” Jihoon finally asks in place of the question that’d crossed his mind first.

"What do you want?" Joshua asks when Jihoon joins him, hands in his padding coat pockets, face tilted up to contemplate the rest stop menu.
Jihoon walks up to the kiosk almost immediately. "Two Shin ramyun, one cheese tteokbokki, and one odeng."
"Ohhh," teases Joshua from behind as Jihoon gets his usual order right. "As expected of our vocal team leader!"
"Hyung, your card," Jihoon glances over his shoulder to ask.
"What?"
"You asked first, so I thought you were treating."
He makes Joshua go pick up the food when their buzzer goes off too, after a two-out-of-three game of rock paper scissors that Joshua lost even while trying to play dirty. “Actually,” Joshua later admits when Jihoon’s pulling a ricecake from the cheese, “I was thinking of getting soondae today.” Beside his elbow on the table, all that’s left of the odeng is the wooden stick and a pool of broth in the plastic cup anyway.
Jihoon noisily slurps the soup from his ramen. “You could’ve just added it in before you paid.”
“I thought you were paying,” Joshua laments. “So I felt bad ordering more.”
Jihoon shrugs before cleaving the boiled egg in two with his chopsticks. “Your tastes are hard to keep up with, Shua hyung.”
Joshua takes the other half happily, smashing the yolk into the leftovers of his ramen. “If you pay next time,” he promises, “I’ll eat it all.” There’s a twinkle in his eyes, like he’s up to no good. Jihoon just laughs and shakes his head.
***
It was hard to say when Joshua particularly liked someone, because he was very accommodating as a person. That made it easy to confuse his true intentions and – even easier – to assume you knew more about him than you actually did.
“Shua hyung’s a Slytherin for sure,” Seungkwan scoffs from the backseat of the van. They’d gotten on this subject after Wonwoo mentioned he’d been reading the Harry Potter books, and Hoshi declared that he wanted to be in the house with the tiger colors. “Him and Jeonghan hyung,” he clicks his tongue, “Don’t you get the feeling they’re always plotting something?”
Joshua hadn’t even graduated high school before he came to Korea. “I think I’m forgetting my English,” he mentioned a few months ago when Jihoon asked him whether lyrics he wrote made sense, but he said the best part about getting better at Korean was being able to talk to his mom more freely.
“Don’t you think he’s pretty brave to leave everything behind to do this?” Seungcheol had asked him not long after Joshua first joined the company. Jihoon remembers he looked up from where he’d been tying his shoelaces to where Joshua was running through an 8-count in the mirror. Jihoon had forgotten so many things over the years, but for some reason he still held onto this – Joshua is the bravest person he’s ever known.
“I think he’s a Gryffindor.” Jihoon decides he can only say this easily because Joshua’s in the other car.
***
Joshua’s sitting in one of the company conference rooms with a ball of yarn on the plastic table and something half-formed on his knitting needles. “Are you done filming?” Jihoon asks after knocking.
Joshua nods, squinting at the instructions. “I turned it off a while ago. I think it was getting kind of boring because I’m not good at it yet, and I can’t read comments and work on it at the same time.”
Jihoon’s slides slap against the linoleum floor. He holds out the plastic grocery bag that’d rustled with with every step for Joshua to see. “Here,” he offers. “It’s soondae,” he explains when Joshua shoots him a questioning look.
“Oh.” A smile begins to spread on Joshua’s face. It lights up every corner of his features like the fluorescent practice room where Joshua used to ask him for pointers on his singing late into the night. I want to be as good as you one day, he’d admitted when they were the last two walking back to the dorm one time. The streets were eerily quiet, and Jihoon hadn't known what to say. “You remembered.”
Jihoon doesn’t remember how he'd responded. In fact, Jihoon had forgotten so many things over the years, but he had the distinct impression that Joshua wouldn’t hold this against him. “You told me you’d eat it all if I paid,” Jihoon prompts.
Joshua puts down his knitting and moves his bag off the other folding chair. “I did, didn’t I?” And there’s a twinkle in his eyes, like he’s done nothing but adore Jihoon for all the years they’ve known each other.
Re: [FILL] then i knew what i wanted
i love this line so much: “I thought you were paying,” Joshua laments. “So I felt bad ordering more.” because it's just so joshua... it's like when he looked in the mirror with a straight face and said he can't imitate the story about the ugly face because he's too handsome. so straightforward about things he should have some shame for. this read on him too: [he was very accommodating as a person. That made it easy to confuse his true intentions and – even easier – to assume you knew more about him than you actually did.] i too know nothing about joshua hong and he surprises me every day... it's a really satisfying characterization of him... reminds me of uncanny valley, yeokshi sapphy *___*
the idea of josh knitting on vlive as a counterpart to yjh's legolives is really cute... i want to see it!! your writing is always really fun to read and reread... always nuance!! thank you for filling this prompt of mine!
