hello op!! this was just a really fun thing to write - i'm not entirely sure if it filled the prompt its mostly just vibes and minghao being in love with a silly boy who is sunshine reincarnate.. but!!! here they are!!!!

***

“I like you, Xu Minghao!”

Seokmin stands with two hands planted firmly on the railing. A lion’s roar rips through his chest, slicing through the onslaught of rain. The entire scene is cinematic, lifted from a movie: Seokmin, with his hair sopping wet and soaked shirt clinging to a broad frame that Minghao has only ever let himself admire from afar, his laugh echoing across the valley, wild and bright. A freed love confession, awkward and still new and fluttering, making its way in the world.

Seokmin repeats it again. He can’t stop smiling. Neither can Minghao, though his cheeks flush with embarrassment, making him the likelier of the two to respect local neighborhood ordinance laws. Minghao hisses at Seokmin to keep his voice down, but there isn't a single sharp sentiment in there. Instead, another silly smile threatens to spill out again.

The entire thing is surreal. But then again, nearly half the things that Seokmin chooses to do seem utterly impossible to Minghao. Partly because he’s never met anyone who goes through the world the way that Seokmin does, with so much candor and love that Minghao always feels bowled over witnessing it firsthand, and entirely because, well ―

Minghao is utterly, hopelessly, endlessly in love with Lee Seokmin. Always has been.

“What are you doing?” He half laughs, half giggles. The air is freezing cold, nipping at fingers he lost feeling in about two minutes into their foray into the rain, but all Minghao can feel is the warmth that Seokmin effortlessly radiates.

“I’m fighting the weather!” Seokmin calls back, smiling wide. “It’s our very first date! It can’t be raining like this!”

“You can try,” Minghao is too fond. It flows from his mouth naturally, with ease, and with none of the shame or second-hand embarrassment that he usually carries with him. Maybe that’s the most wonderful thing about being with Seokmin: it’s always easy when it’s just them two. “I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.”

Miraculously, the storm breaks.

The sunlight returns with full force. It hits Seokmin just right, illuminating all of his sharp features and softening them with a kind glow, so that he looks like a star reincarnate, forever shining and bright. For a split second Minghao is struck with the intensity of a feeling. Lighting bolt to the heart.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Minghao stammers, brushing the rain off his coat. “You just got lucky.”

Seokmin replies brightly, completely undeterred. “That’s okay! I have all our lives to convince you that magic exists, Xu Minghao.”

Minghao’s breath hitches in his throat. That thing sitting in his chest swells, just a tiny bit more. He closes his eyes for a brief moment, wanting so desperately to commit this feeling to memory, wanting to trap it in time, so that he can preserve this wondrous boy standing in front of him right now, just as he is.

It’s simple. It’s so lovely. It’s Seokmin. All these things are one and the same.

Minghao opens his eyes. Seokmin is smiling, as always. Minghao savors the taste on his tongue before he takes a step forward.

Seokmin meets Minghao halfway.
