Every sweltering inch of his skin feels scalded and scratched, and the firm body against his is unnaturally cool. The wet at his lips tastes smells of copper and sweetness, but the sirens in his mind scream no. Wonwoo must say it aloud, too, somehow because Jeonghan – Jeonghan? When did he get here? – screeches in frustration, leaning down to lick into his mouth.

You’re not dying on me today sounds like a promise Wonwoo cannot fathom. The numbing darkness that follows is a salve.

--

Doors slam too harshly outside of the motel, the sound rattling to his aching teeth and jaw. Gold and rouge flicker and twinkle in from the street. Wonwoo can hear the passing cars. He was driving, and the car–

He can hear every single thought in the building, too. The only thoughts that matter is Jeonghan’s.

Not much longer now. It'll pass.

He doesn't remember being carried in. He doesn't remember passing out, or why the pillow under his neck feels sticky. He can smell fire. Was there a fire?

Wonwoo folds in on himself. Everything feels so much. The noises speed up. He can feel the blood sloshing through his veins, his heart beginning to slow.
Jeonghan gathers him up into his arms. The burning smell gets thicker. Smoke fills his lungs, and he chokes on his final breath.

Still here.

When Wonwoo opens his eyes again, Jeonghan is there, draped across the couch. His lips are shiny and red, wrist bleeding.

The hunger that Wonwoo feels at the sight is unnerving.

“Oh,” he coos. “You'll love this part.”

I've never had a choice. Before.

Well, this is your out. if you want it.

They flit in and out of motels. “It’s one of the few places we never get noticed,” Jeonghan shrugs in the driver’s seat of this week’s car, a Sienta, adjusting the mirrors as Wonwoo gets settled in. The drive to the next place is short. Their belongings are sparse, a small duffel shared between the two of them, all that was left from the wreckage of–

“You’re drifting out a little,” Jeonghan teases, leaning up to kiss his cheek. “Come back to me, Wonwoo.”

“You look so cool,” Jeonghan gives the compliment casually, bouncing up onto the balls of his feet to hook his chin on Wonwoo’s shoulder. “You smell nice, too. Like an AB neg score. Nice.”

The AB neg in question rushes into his cheeks, but he adjusts his collar, meeting Jeonghan’s gaze.

Jeonghan wriggles around his body to fit himself between Wonwoo’s hips and the counter. He stares up at Wonwoo for what feels like an eternity. Wonwoo keeps his eyes forward, but his lips tick up.

"What?"

He can hear the muscles in Jeonghan's face tighten into a frown.

Wonwoo pretends to not hear the thought that passes. His mouth parts just enough to look inviting. There's still enough blood on his tongue that he knows the Call is there.

Jeonghan accepts.

I wouldn’t leave you even if you asked.

“...thank you.”
